Hello there and welcome to Colors of Sunset!

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands….In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and make its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. Psalm 19 :1, 4-6

Thanks and welcome to my site! Hope all enjoyed a blessed Christmas and New Year’s season. I am a little excited and a little nervous too to be starting this new adventure in my life.  Glad to have you as a part of it. I have been considering blogging for a while and it seems now is a good time as any start. As far as the title, Colors of Sunset; it seems appropriate for the subject of this blog. I have now hit the 6th decade of life and for some people, one might think;”oh no, life is over”; but I am a non-conformist and I refuse to just give in to what every one else may think. Sunsets have the most colors before the sun retires and in different places the effects of the sun setting are even more stunning. I prefer to think of this decade as the beginning of a sunset and I can’t wait to see what marvelous things are to be seen as a sun begins its descent for the day. Covering different aspects and life changes that come are like the colors of the sunset! Join me in learning to enjoy the colors of the approaching sunset and feel free to share with me some of the highlights of yours as well.

Some 20 years back I would never have imagined doing this and it didn’t even cross my mind 10 yrs. ago, but here we are at the beginning of the sixties in my life, I see some exciting possibilities. I remember when I reached 50, I sent an email out to some friends asking for their advice, tips, encouragement upon reaching the 50’s. They responded with words of encouragement, how they were coping, friendly advice and counsel. I appreciated that a lot. Now Blogging has arrived and I can do much more than just send out an email. I can connect with innumerable people and we can share, support, encourage, give ideas, share hobbies, as well as advise each other. The possibilities are endless.

So what kind of things exactly are we looking forward to; in retirement for example, how does that work?

Well for starters, early retirement or late?

Does the budget change and how do we manage financially? Maybe we should just take a part time job for several years before we totally ease into retirement?

Do we downsize our house, move out of state, live close to kids or live in a community?

Should we start new hobbies, join clubs or take classes for enrichment and learning?

What’s the best way to take care of ourselves physically? Should we join a gym and watch what we eat? or ‘go for all the gusto we can’while we can?

Should my hubby and I do it all together, or should he be involved in his own activities and I in mine?

If you are a widow or single, how do you stay connected or how to connect again after losing your spouse?

These are just a few of the many decisions and adjustments my spouse and I have to consider years ahead. It is good to have a support system in place for the changes coming. Perhaps it is a church group, your neighborhood, or family that live close by.

Then again, how do we keep our minds sharp and stay spiritually attuned?

What’s the best place to shop for clothes for seniors, and/or get haircuts, perms, etc?

Is it better to shop and cook for oneself or do we take advantage of senior discounts in the restaurants?

There are many paths we can go and explore to learn. I am sure that as I search and question; more issues and topics will across our path that we can ‘walk on’ to see where they go. I am happy to be on this adventure with you!
